Kairos

The New Testament was written in Greek. In ancient Greek there are at least two terms for time: Καιρός, Kairós and Xρόνος, Chrónos.

While chronos refers to quantitative, continuous, chronological time, kairos denotes a particular quality of time or a specific point in time. Chronos is therefore occasionally interrupted or stopped by a kairos.

A kairos happens, for example, when God wants to tell you something and change you. Here is an example of such a kairos:

📖 Mark 1:15

Questions:

  • What does Jesus say here that people should do?
  • What comes after "repenting" or turning back?

If you want to become more like Jesus in your life, there are many such moments when the Holy Spirit speaks to you. You experience a personal kairos.

📖 Hebrews 3:7+8a

Question:

  • What does it mean to close your heart when the Holy Spirit speaks?

With the picture below you can help each other to progress in life and become more like Jesus.

First you look back and ask yourself what the Holy Spirit is telling you and what you do with it.

  1. "Observe": Describe what the situation or experience with God was.
  2. "Reflect": Reflect on the situation and what God wants to say to you. For example, you can ask yourself why you reacted in this way or what emotions you had, etc.
  3. "Discuss": Discuss the Kairos moment with each other here first. Firstly, it is important to hear other people's opinions. Secondly, you now actively ask the Holy Spirit what He wants to tell you about it.

If you have now recognized the true problem of your kairos moment and have come to repentance, Jesus now says: “Believe and realign yourself!” From here, you no longer look back, but forward.

  1. "Plan": Now plan a concrete implementation in the next few days. Here it is important that you also involve the Holy Spirit in your plan.
  2.  "Accountability": Set an accountability date. If you want what God has initiated in your life to actually come to fruition and for things to really change, it is essential that other people are allowed to ask questions. Decide when you will ask each other.
  3. "Act": Now act on your new insight.

Congratulations, you have made some progress in shaping your personality. You can repeat this at any time with yourself and with other people.
